Hi, I’m Tomás 🐢

software engineer :: systems thinker :: AI & HCI :: distributed systems :: computer science @ UBA

👋 About Me

I’m a Software Engineer and Computer Science student at the University of Buenos Aires interested in building reliable systems and understanding what happens beneath the abstractions.

My interests span distributed systems, concurrency, operating systems, networking, databases, infrastructure, AI, and human-computer interaction.

I’m especially drawn to open-ended problems that don’t have an obvious solution yet. I enjoy crossing disciplines, learning whatever is necessary, and turning ideas that don’t exist yet into working systems.

I learn best by building, breaking, measuring, and understanding why things behave the way they do.

🧠 Areas of Interest

💻 Systems & CS

Distributed systems · Concurrency · Operating systems · Networking · Databases · Computer architecture · Systems programming

⚙️ Engineering

Backend architecture · Event-driven systems · Message-oriented systems · Scalability · Fault tolerance · Observability · Infrastructure

🤖 AI & HCI

AI agents · Local/on-device AI · AI orchestration · Voice interfaces · Computer vision · Gesture interaction · Multimodal systems · Human-computer interaction

I’m particularly interested in AI as an interface between humans and computers — through voice, vision, gestures, and natural interaction.

🚀 Projects & Experiments

Most of my projects are experiments driven by questions rather than products.

🤖 Jarvis

A local-first personal AI assistant exploring AI as an interface to the computer itself.

  • 🧠 Local LLMs & on-device inference
  • 🎙️ Voice & speech recognition
  • 🔊 Speaker verification
  • 🛠️ Tool calling & agent orchestration
  • 🖥️ Computer control
  • 🪟 Visual desktop interface
  • 🖐️ Gesture-based interaction

The goal is to explore what happens when voice, vision, gestures, AI tools, and the operating system become part of the same interaction model.

🖐️ Human-Computer Interaction

Exploring general-purpose gesture interaction as a reusable system rather than an application-specific feature.

⚙️ Systems

Experiments with distributed systems, operating systems, IPC, concurrency, infrastructure, observability, and low-level programming.

❤️ Problems Worth Solving

I’m most excited by difficult technical problems with meaningful human impact.

Examples:

  • 🤖 Assistive robotics & prosthetics
  • 🧠 AI for healthcare & accessibility
  • 🛡️ AI for safety and risk detection
  • 👴 Technology for older adults
  • 🔬 Research & multidisciplinary engineering
  • 🌍 Accessible and privacy-preserving technology

I’m happy to work outside my current specialization when the problem is worth solving.

If solving the problem requires learning robotics, embedded systems, computer vision, AI, or another field, that’s part of the fun.

🌍 AI, Access & Responsibility

I want to explore how AI can democratize access to useful technology, especially through local and affordable systems.

At the same time, I’m interested in understanding AI’s limitations, failure modes, privacy implications, security risks, and broader impact.

What can we build with AI — and what should we be careful about building with it?

📨 Let’s Build Something Interesting

Working on a weird idea, difficult technical problem, research project, or something that doesn’t exist yet?

I’d love to hear about it.

I’m particularly interested in open-ended problems, multidisciplinary teams, research, and projects where technology can meaningfully help people.

Let’s figure out what it would take to build it.

🌱 Beyond the Terminal

🎮 Gaming · 📚 Reading · 🏋️ Training · 🌊 Surfing · 🧘 Meditation · 🐈 Cats · 🎤 Karaoke · ☕
